I don't really have words to explain just how much I am loving this city so far! We got in around one and spent our day in a part of town called Hillsboro village which is in the West end and packed with cafes, venues, vintage shops and just about the best Cajun style restaurant I've eaten at in my lifetime!

Today we saw the Grande Ole Opry House, which I thought was actually not that impressive - at least visually. I'm sure seeing a performance would be quite something, but we just don't have the budget for things like that!
Instead we headed to Karen Elson's shop Venus & Mars in hopes of a Jack White sighting! (a Jack Whiting?)....Alas, no celebrities were to be seen, but the store was lovely and set up in the cutest little old house with crooked walls and floors and everything!
We wandered some more around the neighbourhood and enjoyed iced coffees, more vintage shopping, a visit to a pretty nice University campus and the most delicious dinner I've eaten since leaving home! South Street's Crab Shack had just about the best cajun style pulled pork sandwich in the world (at least the parts of the world I've visited so far!) and some pretty darn delicious black beans on rice!

We were lucky enough to be here on the night that Torche was playing with Harvey Milk at the Exit/In. Mike had wanted to see both those bands play, but we were gone on their Montreal date, so it felt a little bit like fate when we saw them on the roster for tonight at a venue we just happened to be parked right outside of.

high jump!

Now it's time for bed. Tomorrow we have a plantation to explore, a famous gravesite to find and a pretty exciting meeting lined up for around 3h30!
I've sort of started liking the sticky humid heat down here, I've just learned that stuffing yourself with delicious Southern cooking isn't the best idea....while Iced coffees on the other hand ARE!
almost...

Listening to: Charles Mingus, Boston, Torche, Tom Waits, Patsy Cline....
