Who are you favourite designers? One of mine would be Peter Jensen: quirky, playful, with the best muses (spring/summer 2011 is called 'Shelley'; as in, Duvall), and always with some type of animal reference (I have the bunny swimsuit and bunny print ballet flats, and wish I had the PJ by Peter Jensen bunny sweater from Urban Outfitters). Jensen collaborated with artist Laurie Simmons in 2009 to create various paper dolls, dressed in Peter Jensen and photographed in a dollhouse. The resulting images were made into a little book (which I have, thanks to James at Children of Vision). But look here: ShowStudio are selling the actual dolls!
It's time for a resurgence in old-fashioned paper dolls, I think (Lula must agree, as they feature Rodarte dolls in the latest issue). I've had this page of paper dolls saved in my 'things to buy' folder for months; some favourites being Classic TV Moms, Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Glamorous Movie Stars of the Seventies, Royal Weddings, Schiaparelli Fashion Review. I'm not sure what I'd actually do with them once I had them - probably leave them sitting on the bookshelf like my 'Fashions of the 40s and 50s' paper doll book. Of course, none are as intricate and beautiful as Jensen and Simmons', which deserve to be displayed like charming pieces of fashionable art.
welcome to the dollhouse
