Info Post

"One never knew what one was going to see at a Balenciaga opening. One fainted. It was possible to blow up and die. I remember at one show in the early sixties - one put on for clients rather than for commercial buyers - Audrey Hepburn turned to me and asked why I wasn't frothing at the mouth at what I was seeing. I told her I was trying to act calm and detached, because, after all, I was a member of the press."

I'm currently reading, and thoroughly enjoying, D.V. by Diana Vreeland, the patron saint of fashion hyperbole. Above is one of my favourite passages, which sums up, in a very dramatic, over-the-top way, that special giddy feeling of excitement that clothes can sometimes give. It also gives me a reason to post some of the lovely outfits from the new pre-fall Balenciaga collection. Although not so lovely that I'm fainting, blowing up and dying, or frothing at the mouth.
