Info Post
Everybody's Ugly on Chictopia asked if I would make a guest blog for them and this is it. I'm posting a copy of it here as well:

Dressing in a vintage way is both hard and easy. Some think that they look too costumey when they wear vintage clothes. And it's true that you can go too far and look like you're on your way to a costume party. The best way to avoid this is to be comfortable in what you wear. Even a pair of blue jeans can look unnatural if the person wearing them is uncomfortable. The second advice I can give is to not try to look like an exact copy of your inspirational source. Always include something personal so that you don't disappear in the outfit. If you want to look like Ingrid Bergman, chose a few of her attributes and combine them with your own. If you just want a little bit of the vintage feel to your outfit, I recommend that you use modern clothes but look at vintage colour-palettes for inspiration and use small vintage accessories for a perfect little hint. Hair-pieces are my personal favourites but anything from bracelets, earrings, handbags or scarfs can make an outfit pop!

Here's an example of how to embrace the 20's look. The dress if an 80's dress with a 20's vibe to it and the headscarf is also very 80's but with a 20's kind of aesthetic to it. By combining the 80's rough look with messy hair, big scarfs and the soft 20's colours of the dresses pattern and design you get something retro but not too similar to the original.

Here I've used modern clothes with vintage colour-combinations. By keeping the accessories in the same colour and go with very strong base colours you achieve something classic. By adding some red lipstick, the quite simple outfit gets an elegant and vintage touch

How you wear your clothes can also be meaningful. I tightend my belt to get a nice 50's wasp waist and folded the arms of the sweater to the elbows. I also did my hair in a classic 40's do which makes the look get that final vintage feel to it.
