Anna Karina began her career in Denmark as a cabaret singer, a model, an actress in advertsements and eventually in short films. When she was 17, she travelled to Paris and got several acting jobs. Anna would meet Coco Chanel, who would change her name from Hanne Karin to Anna Karina. She was then spotted by Jean-luc Godard, at that time, only a writer for Cahiers du Cinema. In 1961, Anna won Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival for her performance as Angela in Une Femme est Une Femme. Anna's career includes numerous highlights outside the seven Godard films. In fact, one her best performances came acting as the troubled young nun in La Religeuse, a Jacques Rivette film which would gain notoriety for its depiction of the Catholic Church. Anna has also worked with legendary director Luis Visconti in The Stranger. In 1973, Anna made her directorial debut in Vivre Ensemble, a film in which she also starred. Anna would also write and star in the 1987 film Last Song, a musical drama. More recently, Anna was seen in the French film Haut, Bas, Fragile and sings a tango in the 2002 film The Truth About Charlie.
