Info Post

A brief interlude from the fashion postings...

Music is awesome. Pretty much everyone likes music in one form or another. I have never heard someone say that they hate music. Personally, I veer between hardcore and folk. Weird.
But sometimes, you find a band or a song that you love. To death. And you wonder why aren't their other bands like this? So you try to find some... However, typing 'bands that sound like (insert band/song here) into Google leads to confusion and terrible, terrible choices. But there is a way...

Thanks to the good folks over at Pandora.com. They have created a music generator that comes up with other bands and songs similar to the ones you put in based on musical factors such as major or minor key tonality, particular influences, uses of vocal harmony etc. For example, I put in the band the Grates. It then searched for artists that featured punk roots, varying tempo and time signatures and repetitive melodic phrasing. It's all pretty scientific.

They play one song by your chosen artist and then play something similar that they think you might like. If you don't like it, click on the thumbs down button and it changes to something else. This allows you to be introduced to new music. It's so awesome. The only shortcoming is that you can only skip a certain number of songs within an hour. This is so that you can't just skip looking for a particular song.

The range of music that they have available is amazing. It has a fair few bands that I thought wouldn't be on there as well as some that shouldn't be on there because they are terrible. But who am I to judge?
