o ebay - it comes in waves for me. sometimes i am looking everyday, sometimes months go by without looking. i must admit, since i've moved across the ocean away from my beloved small-town thrift shops, i've looked and bought a few too many times on ebay. today, for example, i saw the western jacket of my dreams on lecon de vetement's blog and was on ebay in a flash. i've never sold anything on ebay but i've amassed a hefty lil' pile of things that haven't quite worked.....too big, too narrow or altogether not how i imagined by looking at the photos. in fact, i really should post some of the orphans here so they can find new homes!

but sometimes, the shoe fits, literally. and that's what happened just last week. i was so happy to win a pair of shorts described as '1940s military shorts', no measurements aside from 'xs/s' and one photo. it was a risk i was willing to take for £1.99!

they arrived within 24 hours and just made my day. the perfect starched cotton in olive green, a wide hem, with a button fly that leads to the most glorious high waist! and the cherry on top is that they must have belonged to my body double (!) as they have been taken in at the waist and up the back, making them a perfect fit. the sweet tag inside reveals the original 'measurements' which are intriguing considering i am 5 ft 9. and not 1940s, but 1960s!

not wanting to wait, today on the 'warmest day of the year' i gave in to shorts with tights. i could be a convert......
