CBGB: was founded in 1973, by Hilly Crystal. It was a music club at 315 Bowery on Bleeker Street, in the the borough of Manhattan in NYC. Originally, the letters CBGB stood for Country, Blue Grass, and Blues. The club was intended to feature its namesake musical genres, but instead became a landmark for American Punk and Underground Rock. The Club hosted performances by: The Ramones, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Nico, The B-52's, The Police, Television, The Cramps, Blondie, AC/DC, Marianne Faithfull, Sonic Youth, Dead Boys, Elvis Costello, The Runaways, Misfits, etc.The club closed in October 2006. The final concert was performed by Patti Smith on October 15.CBGB Fashions (the CBGB store, wholesale department, and online store) stayed open until October 31 at 315 Bowery.
