After my first day exploring - and falling in love with - Chicago, I had promised myself I'd write up a post on our second day, but I got totally side tracked by my exciting meetup with Aya!
Well, it's been on my mind ever since I came home, and I thought this lazy Sunday would be the perfect time to sit down with a cup of coffee and really put my thoughts into words.
I've been feeling totally strange since we got back from this trip! On one hand I'm so sad that it's over and that I'm no longer waking up every morning in some new, even prettier-than-the-last perfect Southern town! I definitely miss the Southern hospitality and the sort of excitement that comes with not knowing what to expect from each new city you drive into...
On the other hand, I've just been so inspired by this trip to really try and bring out the creative critter inside me and find a way of doing something really great with my life! There's no way of saying this without sounding totally corny, really, but so many of the people we met on this trip - be it bloggers, their boyfriends/husbands or Mike's musician friends - are doing somethign they really love with their lives and seem to really know exactly who they are! And now I've been bitten by this bug that's got one million ideas floating around up in my head, and I'm kind of glad to be home where I could potentially make some of them happen! One or two of them are already in the works...the rest may have to wait till I'm finally out of school and have a little more money and time to invest....
I digress...that whole tangent was supposed to segway into our night at The Green Mill in Chicago, but somehow I lost my way....
On our last night in the USA, Mike and I decided we should paint the town red - or yellow in my case - and do what we do worst - stay out late at a fantastic bar!
Well, I can't quite explain just how I feel about this place because I know that no matter what I say it won't be enough! From the perfectly 1930's flashy neon sign outside to the wacky bartender who let me peek over the bar at the trap door in the floor that Al Capone himself used to use for storing alcohol when it was a speakeasy back in the 20's, and everything in between was perfect! And if the authentic 1920's decor inside wasn't enough, the AMAZING jazz band that was playing that night would have sealed the deal anyway! Whether you like Jazz or not, if the Dee Alexander Quartet comes to wherever you live, go and check it out! I had been on her myspace earlier that day and I thought I would hate it, but it was quite possibly one of the best nights of my life! So good in fact, that Mike and I actually managed to get a private drum lesson from Dee's drummer; Ernie Adams - who is now Mike's idol! We enjoyed the whole night from our own private little green velvet booth and I wish I could go back tonight!
If you're ever in Chicago, you must check this place out! Your life might just be changed a little bit!
