Andrea Pompilio Spring Summer 2012 'Tropical Leaves Print' Canvas Lace-upsA fast rising star in the menswear scene... Andrea Pompilio is the designer to keep watch even when his brand is only a few seasons old (The brand debuts in FW2011). Tim Blanks of style.com gives his 'seal of approval' while The Sartorialist had only excellent reviews for his collections. Besides having these heavy weights in fashion supporting his work, Andrea Pompilio also boosts an impressive resumé with the title of the best designer at the “Who’s Next?” competition for new talents, and years of experience honing his skills at Prada, Calvin Klein and YSL. It's no surprise Andrea Pompilio's creations are never novice but shows clever technique, understanding and concepts from a seasoned designer.
I have been fascinated by Andrea Pompilio's Spring Summer 2012 mens collection ever since I read The Sartorialist's review. The brand's website www.andreapompilio.it is informative with lots of inspiring lookbook pictures that got me even more excited. However, being a new brand, it's hard to track down stockists outside of Italy and especially online. With much research, I managed to track down a small selection of the current season's collection at www.thecorner.com.
One of the must-have pieces from the SS2012 collection had to be these Canvas Lace-ups featuring a sepia tropical leaves print. The shoes are featured prominently in the lookbook and press presentation making them a key accessory. Clever use of photographic image add a unique aesthetic to mens' lace-ups, setting them apart from other conventional designs. The shoes is designed with a round toe slender shape, and surprises with special details such as hook eyelets (derivative from hiking shoes) to secure the flat leather laces. Elasticised gores also allows the shoes to be worn snugly without laces, creating a nonchalant summer look. To round it off, contrast stacked wooden soles cleverly adds layering and colour that gets a thumbs up.
With this pair of shoe resonating with me at so many levels, I find no reason to deny myself of owning them. Hence, a credit card swipe and a mouse click later, these Andrea Pompilio shoes became part of my shoe family:-) Welcome!
