I'd just like to say a very big thank you for all of your kind comments. Particularly regarding the items featured here that I have made. I really love sewing and it's not even about the final product. The honest truth is that I get a kind of simple joy from creating something, whether it be a shirt, a batch of banana muffins or painting. Over the years, I've learnt how to sew, embroider, latch-hook, knit, crochet (pathetically) and bead. I've also dabbled in screen printing and dying. Lately, I've been looking at the costs associated with weaving and making bobbin lace.
That's not to say however that I everything always works out. I have friends who can't believe that I make the things I do and they say that they could never be 'as good' as they seem to think I am. However, most people only see the things that do work out and not the material that I've wasted and the discarded projects.
One such project is this lovely bed jacket which literally haunts me and I haven't the heart to throw it out because I still believe that I can fix up my mistake.
I found it in the costume section of an op shop one day and loved the lace detail. The colours (white and powder blue) were a bit hard to wear and a bit too sweet for me. I found this picture of Sienna Miller and immediately set out to buy some black dye.

(The jacket is the thing in her hand. Sorry, this is the best photo I could find)
A few hours later and as a result of my impatience, this is what I created.

It's a funny dirty navy colour and completely unwearable. There's really no one to blame but myself and if I'd just added the correct amount of hot water, who knows how many fun outings me and my jacket would have had together. However, I think I've gotten over it and hopefully, I'll try to re-dye it sometime within the next few weeks.
