stripes!

stripes!

stripes!

Dear friends, you were right. You told me to go with Etsy and now I come to you humbled in agreement - yes, Etsy seems the superior internet selling spot. I erroneously assumed that fees would be lower and that there was safety in numbers with Ebay but after reviewing my first week of sales Michael Bluth's voice echoed in my head confirming that I had indeed "made a huge mistake". Foolish me! And such an easy and avoidable mistake! Had I only taken the time to read on fees! Those darn fees! Anyways, enough of that business, I just wanted to share that bit of information with you should any of you be plotting their own online shop. I've put together a little collection of stripes (including those two stripey outfits above) that I plan to put in shop tomorrow (a new shop, called My Loved One as The Loved One is spoken for on etsy).

Tomorrow I have a little surprise for you, sweet readers!

Advanced Style Video: Debra and Tziporah on The Healing Power of Style

[Video By Lina Plioplyte for Advanced Style]

The other day I talked briefly about The Healing Power Of Style and how style and dressing up can be used to elevate the spirit. Debra and Tziporah feel that through self expression and the art of dressing up they are bringing joy to themselves and others around them. Debra always says that Fashion is fun and that creativity is healing. My mom and grandmother always encouraged me to express myself and be creative and Debra and Tziporah inspire me to continue to live a life filled with art, beauty and self expression. I hope they inspire you as well. Remember you can email Debra at Debrathenutritionista@gmail.com . Not only is she a fabulous artist but an amazing Reflexologist as well!

Current Mood: Chill Out

Hurtling towards Easter weekend. Translation: 4 days off work. Forecast? Sunny with highs of 26 degrees?! (78F for all you south of the border). Major plans include lugging out patio furniture, the BBQ and some summer clothes! Of course wishing I had a closet full of IRO cause it kind of captures my chilled out mood (fashion and otherwise), but will let you know what I find;)

Camel is Cool

Is it just me or did every PFW diva ditch her black or grey coat from last season in favour of cool camel? These pics were only plucked from The Sartorialist - and if his blog is any indication - you're probably going to be wanting one too? Liking it best when mixed with grey jersey and authentic vintage denim. Love!

{Stand Still}

Last weekend, when the weather was actually feeling spring-like, my boyfriend and I took a drive to the wondrous region that is Scranton, PA. We made a very much anticipated stop at Old Good Things, to take a gander through their labyrinth of endless, well, old really good things. There's something about getting lost in sun drenched aisles flooded with antiques, old wooden chairs dangling 20 feet above your head, and the dusty confusion of a fine cob webbed warehouse, that endlessly pleases me. I feel at home, which may not say much for my deficiency in the ability to organize my mess of a space, alas, the subtle disarray of artifacts stacked about, speaks louder to my inspiration hungry head than a well organized showroom of neatly tailored, and color coordinated rarities. The possibility for good mistakes is far greater.

After enjoying a classy can of Genny beer and attempting mastery of the unicycle in the sunny yard of friend and owner of Around Town Bicycles, Rich, we naturally found an abandoned train track as the pleasant backdrop to introduce you to my Let Them Eat Meringue Pleated Dress in Black Silk; now for sale here!

sight for sore eyes

Today I went to play with Kristin over at RVCA

Lucy Jarvis

I met Lucy last June when she came into the New Museum with a friend. She left a lasting impression on me with her amazing style and wonderful presence. Since that moment I have oftentimes looked back at her photo wondering when I would see her next. The other day as luck would have it, Lucy walked into the New Museum and I couldn't contain my excitement. I ran up to her and asked if she was the woman I had taken a photo of last year. She said. " Yes, but how do you remember me?" I replied that I could never forget someone as stylish and wonderful and her and we walked outside to take some new photos. She stood in the rain as I snapped away. Turns out Lucy is a celebrated television producer, read more about her amazing career below:

In a remarkable broadcast career spanning nearly fifty years, Lucy Jarvis has made her name by achieving the impossible. In 1963, she was in Moscow filming a documentary when the Cuban Missile Crisis erupted. Undeterred, Jarvis fired off a cable to the White House demanding that President Kennedy end his “little argument” so that she could continue shooting. Afterward, Kennedy joked: “I told Khrushchev if he got the missiles out of Cuba, I would get Lucy Jarvis out of the Kremlin!” The Kremlin was the first of many award-winning documentaries and specials that Jarvis would make for NBC News. Savvy, connected, indomitable, there were few doors that she could not pry open, from the restricted inner sanctums of the Louvre and Scotland Yard to the impenetrable (or so it seemed) enclave of China’s Forbidden City. Along the way, Jarvis also produced a string of investigative documentaries about the crucial social issues of our time, from gun control to drug abuse to the imbalances of the medical system. When she left NBC in 1976 to become an independent producer, Jarvis was one of the first women in history to launch her own production company. Through it all, she credits her success to motherly advice: “She made me believe there was nothing I couldn’t do, and I believed it and, therefore, did it.”(Paley Center for Media)

As if I wasn't already bad enough about updating this thing and replying to comments with school and a recent job change keeping me busy, then the world decided to throw apartment hunting and some sad family news in the mix. On top of all of that the internet connection we were stealing from our neighbor recently became password protected, so now I can only update my blog from work, if I think to bring my laptop with me!

I guess it isn't all so bad, this time of the school year (exams, essays, readings ah!!!!) always gets to me and I start to go a little crazy.
One thing the lack of internet at my apartment has done for my life however is made me take advantage of my downtime a little more though! The other day I made tea cup and mason jar candles with Yana (I wanna be neighbours forever!!!) and we went over some exciting photos and fonts for the final prep stages of my upcoming Etsy project! And besides that I've been lucky enough to find time to go thrifting three times in the past two weeks! So I guess it isn't all bad!

I am always really torn about posting really personal news on my blog, because while I know all of your comments will be sweet and supportive and make me feel better, I get a little creeped out about people I don't know are reading this, reading about my personal life....but we recently found out my Grandmaman has liver cancer and while she's 87, and still very healthy aside from this, we're all really hoping she won't suffer too much from this, and if it isn't too much to ask, I'd love if you could include her in your prayers, or just maybe think positive thoughts for her and send some good energy her way. She's a really special lady, and a big inspiration to me!

I hope you all had wonderful sunny weekends. Montreal is predicting gorgeous warm sunny weather this week, and right now I'm staring at just about the most perfect sunset I've seen in years, and wishing Mike were here with my camera so we could capture it! Oh well, I'll have to take a picture with my mind instead!

and then i hear the birds

i spent the last nights rolling around in bed and peeing alternately.
i blame the little one x)
i surrender.
sleep is so 2009 anyway.
just let the good times roll!
only my sissy eyes cant stand the heat.
i trick those dummies with wearing sunnies 24/7.
and i mean 24/7.
and with this sudden gift of time dimensions i finally find the time to think about sublime and also splendid things like why do we like our walls painted white and what to eat next.
now beat that!

Yoga Style: Gurmukh Kaur

This stunning 68 year old yoga instructor was on her way to teach a class when I ran into her on Prince Street. Here is a link to a 2007 Vanity Fair article featuring Gumukh Kaur and her practice and a photo from the article below:

People at work

Beautiful photography by Tommy (This is Naive blog ) of Susie Cowie at work

So excited to see the first addition of "People at work"by Tommy from the blog This is Naive. Susie Cowie's work is just so delicate and beautiful, seeing a glimpse into her world feels so special and unique. I will definitely be seeking out her work round London, those little embodied bows are just too adorable.

I have also fallen in love with the blog This is Naive, seeing the world through Tommy's eyes is far more interesting I find. She only posts original photographs taken herself letting the photographs tell the story. I was lucky enough to meet the talented writer/photographer Tommy a  few weeks ago, she is such an interesting lady who I could have chatted to for hours on end! She is going to do a "People at work" piece on Nadinoo in April so you will get a peek behind the scenes of my new London studio/ apartment, think it may be time for a spring cleaning...

I hope to resume to regular posting soon, I have busy getting up to date with all your many wonderful orders.
Thanks again for your kind patience while we adjust to the move, almost there now!

Lip Balm

This weekend, my father and I made some home-made lip balm. It's really easy to make and make great, personal gifts. We used the really luxurious oil, argan oil, but other oils can work just as good. The argan oil is really good for your skin, so that's why we chose it. You mix the oil with bee wax (1/4 wax to the amount of oil). The easiest way to melt the wax is to put it in a container that you boil in a kettle with water. When the mix is around 60 °C (140°F) you can pour the mix into small containers and let it cool to become solid. If you use more oil, the mix can also be a great body lotion.

Finished result:

6 small containers with fun and personal labels

The finished balm, it smells really nice!

The Mix

Julia Sarr-Jamois, the new fashion editor of Wonderland and perhaps PFW star (in-the-making?) My favorite thing about all these pics is that some of her style-staples keep making re-appearances.... trusty jean jacket, fur vest, silver booties, vintage Versace bag. If someone photographed you for a week - what would your style staples be? Mine: Combat boots, BFF's vintage jean jacket, A-Wang Brenda bag, Martin Margiela coat, P. Schouler grey lace-up booties. It's the mix!
