Happy belated Halloween folks. Today's recipe is a little bit French Queen, a little bit dead. You guessed it, it's Marie Antoinette!
While I'm not awesome enough to do things the real way, I did manage to throw a little bit of something together with some stuff I had sitting in the pantry/available from your local party store. That plus the magic of the internet and you have the ghost of freshly beheaded royalty ready to go!
Ingredients -
Hair
- Comb/brush for teasing
- A whole can of white hair spray
Neck
- Tissues
- Liquid latex
- Make-up (concealer, eyeliner, maroon eyeshadow)
- Fake blood
- This tutorial (Instructables is kinda my new BFF).
Clothing
- Something with an appropriately poofy skirt that isn't too slutty. Pretty sick of slutty Halloween costumes... Mean Girls messed up a lot of impressionable young ladies.
Here's one I prepared earlier!
Hope you all had a super awesome time!

Current Obsession: Lace-up Booties
Am I in need of a 12-step program?
Favorites? Hard to pick. I like 'em all. Current go to: All Saints work-boots. Second to those - grey suede Proenza Schouler booties. My heart skipped a beat when I found them in NY. Most recent addition: Zara black suede wedge booties. Great for beating around the city or office when Proenza's are too much (c'est possible?) Oldies but goodies: grey patent Dries Van Noten wedges. They get better as the seasons pass. Ones that require the most thought in the morning: Haider Ackerman tall boys. I'm not giving up on them quite yet - but I unfortunately wear them the least. That's it. First step is recognition that you have a problem right? xx

Happy Halloween!
I've had a very important visitor staying with me this week and have, as a result, not had much time to spend online poking around the blog world. I promise to be back soon starting with an introduction to my beloved guest later today. In the meantime check out this site for a peek at frightening costumes of Halloweens past. Have a scary and tiny chocolate bar-filled night!
Happy weekend

Ahhh my first weekend off in over three weeks, shall be enjoying my lazy morning lye ins, cups of tea, Autumn walks and catching up on Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girl...
Utter bliss!

Family Wreath: Tommy Jr.
For years a small chocolate box sat in my Nana's side board. The box was filled with dozens of photographs taken by Thomas Jefferson Rolland Jr. (1915-62), my father's uncle, during WWII. When I was last home I scanned in some of my favourites before giving the lot to my father for safe keeping. Here are a few of them with Tommy Jr.'s own captions. The last two always get my imagination a'racin' with thoughts of who he met along the way and how the places might look now. They leave me wishing I could hear the stories behind each and every click of the shutter.

Advanced Style in Cologne
I'm always excited to find examples of advanced style on other people's blogs. My pal MISTER MORT's blog led me to a street style site out of Cologne called Anders-Anziehen, run by costume designer Sandra Smilla Dankert. Smilla presents a diverse group of ages and styles and I was particularly drawn to her awesome selection of Advanced Style. I asked if she would share these photos with us.She happily agreed and gave some great insight into these wonderful photos below:
"I asked the woman with the flowers and the hat for whom the beautiful flowers were for , and she told me ;" For myself... for the nice things in life you have an own responsibility, I think...so..." that's what she said. :-)"
"The other women ,in the blue dress, with flowers; she couldn't believe that I want to take a picture of her, she was highly surprised. She told me that she found the flowers in some garbage box on the street a minute ago, they stuck in it like a decoration. She was a very fine lady, seems to be not too rich, and spending all her money for her 4 children and about 8 or 9 grandchildren. She admired that I am a tailor and a costume designer- she was really interested in my blog project- very openhearted. She would have loved to be a Tailor as well, and then she smiled and said- "well- with 4 children you more or less just become a tailor in a way."
"I met the early bird guy this morning, around 8 , he came home from shopping. It took me a while to explain the difference between Internet and newspapers-he thought I was from the newspapers. He first was very skeptical, but somehow my great mood just reached him in a way,and he smiled- and said OK- take your picture. To be dressed well is very important to him."
"The older lady with the walking-help with the walking cart she was so great! She is 97 years old. She told me that she came to cologne in the age of 25.She was married to a fabricator of clothes, they had money, and she ran around in very chic and stylish clothes. She loved to be dressed exquisite..and special."
Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos!
