Black and White

I was walking through the West Village when I came across this amazing woman!

drest friend

my closet has been a bit of a wreck since we moved and up until today i hadn't touched two of the four wardrobe boxes i had stuffed in there. prompted by visits to a few vintage shops over in the lower east side yesterday i decided today to visit with some of my favourite treasures. i've been a very bad caretaker and have on display quite a wrinkly lot of dresses (ohh steamer, i dream of you) but i'm sharing them with you regardless! some on display for their sentimental value (first blue dress is my all time favourite - a christmas gift from landon our second year together) and others are new friends that i've yet to slip into (the wonderful fur collared with bows and buttons wedding dress). if you're curious to see more i've uploaded heaps of them over here!

my friend Nick designed this feathery tee for topshop and sent it flying my way.

this is just the beginning

I love the Neverending Story; I love the empress, I love the pink dragon, Falkor ... well in general I love fairy tales. :) So does Clare. Clare Bickford-Smith is graduating (BA degree) from St Martins this spring. Here is a preview of her collection (I have never seen anything like her collection...the details, the materials (lazer cut leather, the nude colors...), everything is stunning about her designs! It has been a true pleasure to collaborate with Clare, we have so much in common when it comes to what inspires us so I cant wait for further collaborations as already planned :)

I will post images of her whole collection later with her inspiration for this collection and complete looks, but here is a preview.

What genus are you?

Here's the second (and last) installment of the Antarctic Voyage drawings! I'm assuming these are bits of seaweed and ocean plants found along the way - but I gotta be honest, I was too overwhelmed with all the illustrations and didn't even try to investigate and learn what each thing is. And, well - I don't read latin, so that's also a problem. But, they're easy on the eyes, so that's fine enough for me!!

I have around 50 more flower/fern illustrations that came from a turn of the century 12 volume periodical...... It got to the point where I had to stop saving images because there were just too many. I'll have to wait a few weeks to post them so that no one gets too tired of the same 'ol things! For now, I'm off to take some photos before Alice and I go to Harvard Square and drink bubble tea and eat cupcakes and buy things at the stationary store. But check my etsy shop later tonight - I think I have 5 nice cotton house dresses to part with and they need good homes - oh and maybe a few blouses here and there too!

** I was hoping to get the listings up tonight but I woke up too early this morning and my brain has stopped working now! In case anyone is wondering - the dresses are in the Medium/Large range and I will try my very hardest to get them up tomorrow night. Once the work week rolls around I usually end up a zombie - but I'll try my best!

The Shining

In spite of my nagging hangover this morning (ok afternoon - ahem) I'm feeling the need to go to my nearest vintage shop and buy up a truck load of sequins. You too?

Last night Mike invited me to go to his Mom and little brother, Jeremy's singing recital in Hudson. I had no idea what to expect, as I've never been to Hudson, and have never heard his brother sing, but both the town and the show exceeded all expectations!
Unfortunately, because we are very last minute people, we didn't leave ourselves enough time to stop and take pictures of all the pretty white houses, water-side gazebos and beautiful old churches. We did find 5 minutes before going in to take some WR photos in front of the church where they were singing. As whiny as I've been about all this rain, it really has made for some plushy green scenes! Whenever the sun does come out, everything looks beautiful and rich and green! Both Mike's mom and brother sang beautifully and made me want to take singing lessons too, and after the show we went back to his mom's house, where Mike made friends with a pitcher of homemade wine (which he regretted deeply upon waking!)...it was a lovely Saturday night!

New York Magazine: Elizabeth Sweetheart

Writer, Joanna Goddard, interviewed our favorite lady in green, fabric designer Elizabeth Sweetheart for New York Magazine. Check out some excerpts from the the article below and the full article HERE.

Why green?

I’m from Nova Scotia, where green is in your surroundings. I missed nature when I moved to New York. I started wearing green nail polish, and it spread all over me.

Tell me about your style.

I always wear overalls. I have 30 pairs. I buy children’s sizes from GapKids and Chadwick’s. And I dye everything—my Nike sneakers, my underwear. I can’t fall asleep unless I’m wearing green.

Do you wear green to work?

Every day. I’ve been in the design business over 44 years.
How do strangers react?

Many people say, “Oh! That’s my favorite color.” On 42nd Street, tourists ask to take my photo. I take the F train and know everyone on it—kids, Japanese girls with green in their hair, all the junkies. I’ve never had a negative experience.

Bye Bye Mon Cowboy...

Denim and black leather.... what goes together better? Currently can't get enough of the two and therefore had to share this fantastic Vogue Nippon shoot featuring Freja Beha Erichsen. What do you think? Did you see those Givenchy over-the-knee boots?! Holy shit! Speechless.
