Happy New Year!

I doubt my night will be quite as fun as this particularly debaucherous New Years in '78 at Studio 54. Ah yes - that is indeed Andre Leon Tally and Diana Ross getting down! Also in attendance - Truman Capote, Halston, Carolina Herrera to name a few.

Wishing you all your own night of bedlam! xx

Happy New Year

Happy new year!

Me, Albert and Annica had a nice new years eve together:

Holidays

I ran off without my camera today, but I had to snap a camera phone shot of this amazingly dressed woman.

stripes ahoy.

i had a few days off work (still enjoying those actually!) and hibernated for a while in our spare room which triples as our guest room, laundry room and my sewing room. i had so much funn and i know something i've made is a success when i don't want to give it away (!). but i did give them away, and the recipients were very happy.

my favourite was this pouch for maryam. made with polka dot fabric my mama sent from north carolina and the latte brown is from john lewis (yes, i had to cave in and buy new!). the inside is made with the light blue fabric you see above and is divided with a snap. oh! and it's too bad you can't see there is a banana-yellow zipper to top it all off.

i have been in love with stripes for the longest time, and recently have also been incorporating chevron stripes and pleats. i plan to make a bigger bag just like this for myself. ahhhhhhh to have more fabrics to choose from (sourcing them over here and also bringing back a haul when i go home) and update my long-dormant etsy shop is definitely a goal for early 2009.

shouldn't be too tough with my new assistant yoshi, he has been spending so much time with me and the machine. silly cat!

p.s. where are the blogger experts.....i tried to change the layout of my blog and now all the links are at the bottom instead of at the side. help!

A look back & 4 Resolutions

I think sometimes its necessary to look back on things before you can really get a grasp on what you want the future to be like. So this post will be dedicated to looking back on some of the bigger events of 2008 and how they affected the things I want in 2009.

  • Apartment Story
I moved twice in 2008, once from my first apartment on Atwater, with too many roommates and not enough experience, and again, from an unfortunate situation at a beautiful apartment on De Bordeaux.
Although I live for fresh starts and change, it's only now, in retrospect, that I realize how hard it was on me not to have a place that felt like home for so long.
I understand now how important it is to live with the people who know you best, be it family or a very long standing best friend.
I don't think my next move will be for awhile, but when it does happen I'll be truly sad to leave this place behind!
Now that I have a real-honest-to-goodness-home-is-where-the-heart-is kind of home, I don't feel so silly investing some time, energy and money into it.

Resolution #1: In 2009 don't be afraid to redecorate as often as possible. My visions of the perfect bedroom change with the seasons. Right now all I see is White:

  • Scholastic Endeavors
I've officially been out of school for 2 years and a little bit. Part of me is really disappointed in how unproductive those two years have been. My intentions were to work enough to save up some money and see the world. Instead, I spent all my money on silly whims, got myself a puppy, a lease and a wonderful boy, planting my roots here deeper than ever before!
I'm not sure what drove me to create so many more ties than I already had in Montreal, but whatever the reason I'm sure it was a good choice because I have learned more about who I am and what I want out of my future in the last two years than in the previous 21 combined!
This Monday I start school again and although the butterflies in my stomach probably have a lot more to do with my complete lack of confidence and fear of failure, I think they might also be due, in part, to my excitement at the thought of learning new things and taking a step in the right direction towards my future.

Resolution #2: Keep my nose in a book at all times, and give myself a little more credit...

2.Lolita
3. Livejournal community
4&5: Glass Orthodoxy
6. Heart
  • Changes in Hair
I'm always such a chicken when it comes to changing my hair. Probably because so many of my impulse decisions have just resulted in short bobs rather than the change I was hoping for.
This year I will change my hair as often as I like (but never ever cut it!)

Resolution # 3: Change it up! Make drastic changes; go white, red, dark, light....curly, straight, up, down...

  • Theme Nights and Alternative Methods to Fun
Recently I've grown tired of going out to bars on weekends and spending all my money on things I have nothing to show for. So in 2009 I intend on being one of those people who has fun in original ways!
Resolution # 4: My evening/weekend activities will include, but will not be limited to:

Theme movie nights, Cocktail Parties, Tea Parties, Cookie Baking, Creating and Sending Packages to my friends, Seasonal outings, Road trips to nearby places, Discovering Montreal, Decorating my apartment, Spending tons of time with my Pooch and consistently coming up with new and original ways to spend my time!

All Pictures from My Heart

2009 promises to be a good year. Better than the last, but worse than the next. Constant improvement is my plan!

a very special year.

The last chapter, 2008 is coming to an end and we're almost about to start with 2009.

Looking back I see myself as one of ELLE Style Awards finalist, giving it my all and, running around during fashionweek in a pink furrcoat, or any other eyecatching look, I see myself falling in love, I see you and the spiders, I see small trips in an almost broken car, or a dead one sort off, I see you laying on the floor, passed out, I see many parties, lots of friends, or lots of people I call a friend, I see trips, lots of trips, I see mucho cryingmoments, but also many smilingones, ofcourse a lot of shopping, expecially after losing my luggage in the Thalys, I see dreams come true, I see MykroMag, I see myself grow, I see kofta, and always the three garlic pieces, I see us in London, or you with my leathertrousers on your head, I see us, ofcourse, and dancing with you in Tokyo, I see myself get shitted with birdshit, I see you fall apart, I see myself dying a little, I see lots of concerts, one to hold one or another, others where we simply loose our minds, I see us skydiving, I see gorgeous photos you took of me in London, I see you grow, I see haircuts, I see us biking around in Paris, I see lots of couscous, I see more horrible movies, I see double f, I see a lot.

Some of the most beautiful things, some very horrible ones. But in the end, I mostly see myself, here, in bed, smiling, while listening to some music, loving 2008 and very much up for 2009. I will change a bit more, I will not let anyone take advantage of me anymore and I will try to take a little better care of myself. Thank you all. Expecially a few. No names, you know who I mean if you're one of them.

This year, 2008, has been very important to me, I've learned a lot, and and.. oh whatever, fuck 2008. Up to 2009! Hell yeah! x

Bugle Call

I noticed this lady playing the bugle outside a coffee shop in the West Village. I started to talk to her and found out that she is 73 years old and has been playing bugle since she was a girl scout. She plays in various spots throughout the Village including outside her favorite coffee shop.

Thumbs Up

This guy was more than happy to pose for a photo in the West Village.
