one hour to go

I can't really let myself complain about a 9 hour work day since I know, as well as everyone, that my job consists of writing these blogs and watching online tv shows...but that last hour sometimes just stretches on so long!
So I entertain myself the best way I know how; by reading other girl's blogs and gaining information from them that I didn't know before...for example:

I never knew that Alice in Wonderland was based on a real girl!

Alice Liddell, the daughter of some head honcho guy at Oxford back in the day who was a good friend of Lewis Carroll! He took a bunch of pictures of her, this one being my personal fave:

i guess thats all the useless tidbits i have to share for now...although i did spend some time really seriously thinking of starting up an e-bay store to sell some of the village finds i have that i planned on altering that i havn't gotten around to doing yet.
I think it'll have to be a solo project cause i feel like those get off the ground faster, but anyone who has tips feel free to share them! I've been asking some of my favourite e-bayers for advice recently and they are all very helpful!

What I did notice about other bloggers is that they put up "inspiration posts" every once in a while with pictures of stuff that inspires how they dress....well...
Here are my PERSONAL "inspirations" recently ....

Rock n' Roll

After spending a hectic week in Paris and 3 days in London, I experienced first-hand the power that was Balmain. Pretty much Colette, Topshop and every store in between was making money off the back of Christophe Decarnin in some form or another. Colette we're talking prime real estate - Topshop too but clearly at a slightly lower -ahem- price point (and mild interpretation). And if the blockbuster show from Monday is any indication - I would say we're in for another deluge of Balmain. Thank God.

a project for school. we're learning about belt placement and the history of red coats.

Um...guys?
It's fall.
IT'S FALL.
It is! Today leaves were falling, and I got to wear my red Mary-esque coat, and it was windy...I love it. Love it.

This is what I wore today, except for Rosh Hashanah services in which I didn't wear anything worth posting. High holidays, gotta wear something presentable. Falling asleep during the rabbi's sermon would've looked a LOT worse had I been wearing lame leggings. Not that there's really any way to cover up from falling asleep during the rabbi's sermon, but...ahem. My outfit for cyberstalking the Margiela line (still recovering) and walking the dog.dress, calvin klein scarf, belt: thrifted. socks: american apparel. coat: hand-me-down. shoes: old character shoes
When I was walking my dog a TOTAL Arthur episode took place. My poor baby (I am not totally heartless and tactless when it comes to animals) started choking on someone's trash. Litterbugs suck.
Luckily, I realized that we've owned about 3 tripods for about 10 years now, so pictures are about to get way better. Taking these pictures was ridiculously awkward though. Oh suburbians, why can't you be like New Yorkers and pay no attention when someone isn't being a completely semi-normal human being? Is it really that weird to set up camera equipment on a street corner and take pictures of yourself?

soccer dad: Look son, that girl is taking pictures with a tripod and everything!
little boy: Whoa! What are you taking pictures of?
girl about to hijack the next car she sees and drive to new york: Um...cars that go by. It's for school.

I really need cue cards for these types of situations.

knowlton + spaghetti

A drive out to the townships in late September has to be one of the most scenic drives I've ever taken! Some of the colors in the trees are colors I've never even seen before!
This SHOULD be my last camera-phone photo shoot since my beautiful Leica is supposed to be arriving in the mail this week!
So bare with the blurriness!

We arrived in Knowlton to find out it was the annual duck fest and half the population (about 40 people) were out and about watching rubber duckies "race" down the stream and eating samples of duck cooked in different ways out of a big white tent that smelled like wet grass.
There was a pen with llamas, donkeys, goats and assorted poultry where Lola quickly made some friends, and foes.
Then we went to eat dinner at the Spaghetti Ranch in magog. It is was it sounds like. A Ranch, where Spaghetti is served and a bread-bar allows you to eat all the bread you want toasted to your liking with a selection of different flavoured butters!
We even shared a chocolate mousse for dessert cause it was so cheap!!!

Bliss.

Isn't this *such* a beautiful picture? I was drawn to it the second I saw it on new etsy shop Blissful Images --although really, all the featured photos are breathtaking. Absolutely worth the click. Via SFGirlbyBay and about a gazillion other blogs.

Stephanie Farrow

Stephanie Farrow is the lil' sister of icon Mia Farrow. She was born in 1949, and became a top model in the late sixties and early seventies. Stephanie was one of Barbara Hulanicki's favorite models, and was often in ads for Biba. She also did some movies with her older sister Mia.

no need for words:

Well, maybe a few:
backwards hair
bathroom sink
messed up jean jacket
3 heads
cake
blue tape
is that their front or back?
is that a dude or girl?
is that even human?
x-ray dress

Heyzeus christmas, Maison Martin Margiela. Favorite line of his ever, and favorite line in all of fashion week so far. That includes Luella, Topshop, Balmain, Gareth Pugh, London, Milan, New York, Japan-evvvvvverrrrryyyythhhhingggg.

I will not be able to fall asleep tonight.

Everything's coming up roses…

This is the point in the fashion season where my eyes start to glaze over and I'm not sure I can click through another runway show on Style.com again. But then, suddenly, Susie's backstage pics from the Fendi show, via the Dazed Digital gallery (that's one above), put me right back on the show review click cycle. I'm not always a Chanel gal, but I have a soft spot for Karl's Fendi collections—such pretty, detailed, vintagey designs. Could Karl get us back in the mindset of flower pins and floral appliqués come spring? If anyone can…

The art of couture

Sometimes, there's nothing like curling up with the new issue of Vogue to get you all excited about fashion. I absolutely adored the feature on couture craftsmanship – and the men and women behind it – in the February issue, together with the whimsical, beautiful photo shoot starring Natalia Vodianova that went along with it. I found the full scan of the story over here. Plus: Pink oversized balloons! Love.

Simply bow-tastic

I admit to running around so much during Fashion Week that I ended up completely ignoring the big presentation of reinvented ruby slippers on display in the tents. What a shame, as Moschino's version of Dorothy's magical heels have me written all. Over. Them.

paris fashion week, spring/summer 2009, pt 3.

Yesterday, well let me think..

First up was waking up, staying in bed way too long, so we had to run towards Cacharel. The brand celebrated her 50th anniversry, so it was quite busy. With one invite we managed to get in, and when the guy showed us our seats, quite in the back, we decided something went wrong, so we asked if he could re-place us.

A few minutes later we sat front row, which was a lot of fun, plus the show was nice. The clothes are okay, nothing to extreme or too special, but the music was a lot a lot of fun. Ending with 50cent and others like Dolly Parton etc. Cacharel, send out a zillion models, and the show was fun!

Next was Gaspard Yurkievich, where we sat 3rd row but couldn't see a thing since all the rows where the same hight. I can't say I dislike the collection, but I've seen better, so just one photo and on to the next one.

Dice Kayek turned out to be, maybe, my favorite so far. I'm deeply in love with what I saw, although my camera isn't working the way I want it to, ha. But the collection was no-colours, gorgeous volumes and strong looks. The show on th other hand, was horrible. Same as our seats, sowhere up far, while there was so many places in between. A collection like this, needs a better show. No doubt.

Next on our list, was running to Dior. Rene and a friend walked with us towards the venue and overthere it was like paparazzi-madness. I believe I got shot like 20 times, and JeanPaul got the double version. I did met this amazing lady fromt he Japanese Vogue, who's also maybe doing something on MykroMag!

Anyway, next was a late lunch, we were quite hungry, so from today on, we're bringing snacks with us! And then... Sharon Wauchob, which was nice, but so fragile and not sure if everyone can wear it. Nice shows, nice shoes!

Ehm.. a quick run towards home, and then we were pretty much late for Margiela! We arrived like 50minutes too late, and they almost wanted to close the door as we ran in. `You had to see us, the entire venue, which was huge and had like 10 rows up high, as this collection was their 20th anniversary, and then we were running over it, trying to find a spot.

As you can see, at the many photos, the show.. was amazing. Probably one of the best, the best vibe, the best overall. It was back in the days and now, and I was cheering the entire time, ha.

So afterwards Yohji Yamamoto, my feet were killing me, not to mention JeanPauls ones, who was wearing heels, we got in, had to wait for ages for the people from Vivienne Westwood, which we skipped to arrive and the show started. I can't explain what a gorgeous feeling the music and the catwalk of white light gave us, but it was extrodinaaaaaair! Okay, littke drama, but the show was good, and the vibe was truly amazing. Check it out on youtube or style.com, you have to.

And that's all. New day. Balenciaga, like.. now! So byeee. x
