Don't Hate Me...

But I'm escaping the spring showers of Montreal for 4 days in St. Tropez and 4 days in Ibiza. Seriously.

I have yet to throw the essentials into my suitcase but I already know I'll be channelling....

....the Roman Goddess vibe. Pretty dresses matched with gladitors...

....Easy Summer Girl mixing sandals and light tunics....

....50's Pin-Up. Take one barely there low-cut bikini and add a mini-tan. (Preservation ladies!!)

How To:

If you're even considering rocking of-the-moment wayfarers with some type of modified turban this summer - consider this post the "how to". And if you think you're looking any less cool than the hipster below -- pls. do not attempt!

The Equation...

Sarah Mower of style.com summed it up best, "Scarlett Johansson (she of Girl with a Pearl Earring and the Louis Vuitton ad campaign, sitting front row) + Vermeer (research trip to Holland) = Fall 2007 collection."

Certainly more my flavour than the sickly sweet spring campaign...I love the mix of cool blues and purples with warm reds used in this campaign - as myself and many before have loved with Vermeer.

As They Say In Fencing.. What's The Point?

The Olsen twins... Either you love them, love to hate them or just fascinated by the fact that, overlooking MK's substance abuse and Ashley's penchant for older men, they haven't really done that much in the past couple of years except put out heaps of clothing lines.

BUT.... The latest story is that the Olsen's are set to be the new Bond girls in Bond 22. Can you imagine? Twins, James Bond.. I'd see it. However, it seems that the girls wouldn't be playing hot, sexy Bond girls, rather they will have nice, pretty, non-confronting supporting roles.

Here are some recent pictures of the twins. I hope the part/s call for them to have better hair
While I love what Ashley was trying to do in the first picture, the combination of that skirt and those shoes didn't really do her any favours. However, the other two pictures are gorgeous. The middle one isn't that new but I love it.

Since you went to the effort to look at all the photos, I have to tell the truth. The 'Bond' rumour has been denied by their publicist. However, Brad and Angelina denied their 'affair' and look how that turned out. I live in hope.

Catherine McNeil

Say that name three times fast. Catherine McNeil. Catherine McNeil. Catherine McNeil. Now get over the fact that she's 5'11", Aussie, stunning and only 18.

She apparently walked a mere 35 of the Fall Paris and Milan shows...and has already began to make appearances at the Resort Collections. Note Dior and umm ya-- that's Paris Vogue.

Anyhow, she's probably the new Gemma Ward minus the alien that we've all came to love--so get used to it. She's here to stay!

Whine and a Moan

To quote Lily Allen - I'd like to have a little whine and a moan.

About what you might ask? About the fact that when I saw this hairy, shaggy bag it truly did nothing for me. Nada. In fact it may have in fact left me feeling a little flat.

And then (this is now a full fledged couch session-confession) I saw it again - and it STILL did nothing for me! If it's possible - it did even less for me the second time than it did the first!

Until (OMG can't believe I'm admitting this)...I saw THIS picture of MK carrying it (looking hungry according to Perez) and all of a sudden it seemed so rock n'roll-perfect-like-I-need-to-update-my-bag-immediately!!!

OK O'Glossy Ones - have I lost it??

(Side note: Perez Hilton=guilty pleasure. Shhh.)

If You Copy It Means You Are Working Without Any Real Feeling..

So it's Australian Fashion Week, and I'm embarassed again. I don't know whether its because of the different hemispheres or because we show later than everyone else, but I always feel as though some Australian designers take other designers ideas and put their own spin on it. There is no originality, no spark. It's nice, it's pretty but whatever.

For example, Jayson Brunsdon did a great collection a couple of years back now inspired by Maria Callas. It was breathtaking. This year collection is full of shiny taffeta, smacks of Prada. And that's all I can think when looking at the collection.

Camilla and Marc, who frankly I love, presented a disappointing collection which again I think, had too much influence from other designers. Australian fashion designers need to realise that designers make the trends, not follow them.
Alex Zabotto-Bentley (quite a name) was both criticised and congratulated for his show designing under his label Fashion Assassin. It seems that old AZB took the whole naughty Lolita thing a bit far, because when some girls bent down to touch their toes in a flirtatious manner (?), the people sitting on the other side saw a whole lot they didn't want to. Those were short shorts.

Probably one of the only designers who I thought, 'Wow, that's rad' after viewing their collection was Ginger and Smart. The patterns, the florals (which are a pattern, but they deserve their own mention) and the colours. Absolutely divine. Hopefully next year it's not so bad.

(?) denotes that I have never heard of touching my toes in a flirtatious manner but I guess it is possible. Oh wait, maybe it was for a big bend and snap. God bless you Legally Blonde.

Who Knew...

...sanitation was so glamorous? Naomi's stint "workin' for the city" as documented by Steven Klein for next months W.

Isn't Life A Series of Images That Change As They Repeat Themselves?

Isabella Blow died from advanced ovarian cancer on 7 May 2007. She was a respected magazine editor, fashion stylist and icon. Her true originality and whimsy was famous throughout the fashion world and she had a rare sense of self that permeated her work. She was only 48 and will be sadly missed.

Isabella was most famous for her love of hats. She was Philip Treacy's muse and was often seen in the front row wearing his confections. My first memory of Isabella was seeing her in an old Woman's Weekly that my mother had given me to cut pictures out of. She was like something out of a dream. A great loss.

A Sad Day for Fashion...

At a time when 'personal style' seems to be more about the stylist you're paying than any inherent fashion sense - the fashion world has lost a true mavric today. It has been reported that Isabella Blow - stylist, former fashion director, and muse has died today from cancer.

Best known for her love of millinery (aka crazy hats) - she discovered and later became muse to the great hat man, Phillip Treacy. In addition to Treacy, she has been credited with discovering the likes of Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan - not to mention British models Honor Fraser, Stella Tennant and Sophie Dahl.

Her bright light will surely be missed from many a front row.

Parka Power

I'm having a bit of a "parka moment" right now. After spotting a few on the spring and fall runways, I finally found a great one at H&M (of all places). And apparently the girl below (as photogrpahed by The Sart) was feeling the same. I'm only slightly jealous that she found hers in soft dove grey, whilst mine is khaki. If you're ready to splurge - Marni's is lovely - as is the one by Narciso Rodriguez. Ya you heard me right...Narciso Rodriguez! Is the parka the new dress? You've got to wonder...

Two Words....

Designer. Garage sale. Wait - that's 3 words. No matter. The point is that once a year the wife of Montreal's foremost shoe mogul hosts a garage sale at her hill-top mansion - and believe me it is an event not to be missed. Forgive me for mentioning it a little late...ahem...but a girl has got her secrets!

Anyhow, what I do want to share are the goods: for me a lovely Chanel bag (that is so-bad-that-it's-good?)...and a pair of fantastic YSL black patent shoes for my good friend A that couldn't be in attendance. (Not to mention - the God's must hate me because my shoe size is tragically a size bigger than that of the shoe mogul's wife!)

Unfortunately that was all I came away with. There was a lovely D&G dress...but I couldn't stand that cat-fight that would've been necessary to aquire it! Sigh. I'm already dreaming of next year!!
