The Pride of Pradastan!

I've been blogging about the turban phenomenon for awhile now and the stir they've caused since their debut on the spring Prada runway. They've almost now taken on a life of there own...inspiring comic strips , celebrities and bloggers alike. Alas, no one quite captures their loveliness like Miuccia herself. Go straight to the Prada website for a large collection of shots with colours that are sure to inspire you - even if the turbans don't?

Fashion Future...Part 2

In my humble opinion, one of the best things about Japanese style is their unbridled quest for the new and the cool. I never cease to be impressed and inspired when I visit Japan (and this trip did not disappoint). They seriously layer like no other, and are the supreme mix-masters of their own wardrobe complilations. Their creativity when it comes to fashion is duly represented in Vogue Nippon. Not seemingly quite as worried about the "commercial" aspect of fashion as their American sister, I dove into the May issue featuring my current Canadian fave Coco Rocha - and it didn't disappoint. The title of the issue was "Fashion Future" and what better way to illustrate fashions future than have some of Japan's best Anime artists lend their hand to fashion illustration?

Gonzo does Hussein Chalayan's most directional collection justice, Studio4Degrees Celcius ventures into the realm of Nicolas Ghesquière's Tron inspired spring Balenciaga collection and perhaps my favorite: Peach Pit doing Christopher Kane in a cacophony of colour and shape.

Between the Click of the Light and the Start of the Dream

Us kids know, right?

So, long time (exactly 15 days), no post. Sorry, things have been busy, assignments and such. Now getting back to the task at hand. Fashion, style, awesome-ness.

Lately, it seems I've read a lot of posts about thrifting. Or what people have found by thrifting and are showing off. As they should because most of it is absolutely amazing.

I've been thrifting since I was ten. People used to pay me out because of it, saying that I couldn't afford to buy new clothes. I would retort that new clothes are boring and that one day they would wake up and realise that they had wasted their life trying to be like everyone else. I didn't say that when I was ten of course, that came later on.

So, the point of this post is to show off some of my favourite finds. I hope you enjoy them.

Top left: Bed jacket - its really beautiful and light, but hard to wear because the fabric is a weird cream colour - $2.

Top right: Brown fake fur jacket - from the tag I think it was made mid 60's, the fur is really soft and definitely faux - $8.

Bottom left: Pink jumper - from the tag, it's mid 70's, really brightly coloured with little puffs at the top of the sleeves, I think that where the colours come to a point there was something attached, that has since fallen off - $1.50.

Bottom right: Two of my newest purchases - the gold and black striped top isn't that old, but it's better to pay $2.50 for it than $30 dollars for a similar thing at the shops. The red cardigan is an man's cardigan, it's a really heavy poly-blend with flat pockets on the front - $6.

This skirt is sooo beautiful, it's a full pure silk skirt. I saw it and fell in love, then I tried it on and it was all swishy and perfect. I took it to the counter willing to pay almost whatever they asked. It was $1.50. One of the best finds.

My three favourite vintage dresses. The black one has the most incredible metallic embroidery. I think it is actually a shirt, but the length means that I can wear it as a tunic dress over black tights. The middle dress, is really simple, but ridiculously fitted. This means that it is hard to sit down in if you even look at food. The picture doesn't do it justice, but it has a really awesome scalloped neckline. The last dress is a relatively new one which I haven't decided what to do with. The fabric is crinkled and covered in purple and blue hibiscuses. Sounds heinous but it's actually really pretty.

Finally, the accessories -

Just a selection, it looked pretty all laid out like this. So yeah, that's probably most of my favourites. I'll have to get around to taking pictures of my other two main collections of vintage, which are rompers and shoes.

Most of my wardrobe is vintage or thrifted but I don't like to make a huge deal about it. If someone asks where I got something from, I'll tell them but I won't be the girl prancing around saying "This dress? Oh, it's vintage. Aren't I so hip?". People like that are lame.

Tokyo!

As we speak...er blog...umm read... ah whateva! I'm packing my bags for Tokyo. What to pack you might ask? Tunic dresses, ballet flats, skinny jeans, nylon anorak...but more importantly - what NOT to pack? Exactly. One never knows when one will be back in Tokyo...AKA home to some of the best shopping in the world. Therefore, I've conclusively decided that I don't need much more than comfy shoes and an empty credit card. Love you all, promise be in touch. Leaving you with a taste of Tokyo street styles....

Listen Up!!

Yah I'm talking to you. If this doesn't spell it out for you - nothing will. Yes Miss Moss is fabulous and fantastic...but can we spend some time looking at her clothing collection that is about to go global as of May? Yes cute pieces here and there...but what this illustrates is ATTUTUDE! Do you see Irina working that $100 blazer?? Now that is invaluable. Look and learn ladies.

Barney's Girl

Barney's girl I am. Some await the Christmas catalogue with the same anticipation that I feel towards the Barney's Co-op bi-annual catalogue...but I doubt it.

For me - first and formost it's about the mix. Some serious Marc by Marc mixed with Helmut Lang...Vena Cava with Daryl K. Favourite outfit if I had to choose...perhaps Han Jin in the last pic mixing gladiator sandals, patent leather and some zippers.

Mod - who cares - I'm moving on.

COACD Party!

But before you go shopping for a new outfit sorry to be the one to break the news...chances are you weren't invited. Sigh. No reason not to enjoy the invite though! (Not much of a consolation prize...you better treat yourself to those new Marni shoes anyhow!)

You Don't Really Know A Song Until You Hear It Live

If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say...Come Sit by Me (Emma!), tagged the whole blogosphere to reveal 7 songs they are listening to right now:
Yeah. It's not the most exciting list, but I'm not bullshitting either. I actually do listen to these songs all the time.

1. Spidersong by Say Anything
Great, great band. Visionary. Their album is kinda of like a crazy rock opera. The lead singer has bipolar disorder. It's insane (though not literally). My favourite line is 'You've got the moves, the shoes, the 'do, you've got me'. Yes, that is the title of the post below. You caught me.

2. Lovecats by The Cure

Catchiest song of all time. No really. Its all cool jazzy music and sing along fun. The Cure are incredible. My greatest wish would probably to see this song performed live. But that ain't never gonna happen. Still best line is 'We should have each for tea, huh, we should have each with cream'

3. Inmates by The Good Life
So lovely, a perfect song. The lyrics are amazing and really heartfelt. The genius of The Good Life mixed with the amazingly beautiful voice of Jiha Lee, anyone who like The Postal Service, Rilo Kiley, Death Cab for Cutie, even Tim Kasher's 'day job' the Cursive, should listen to this. Trust me, you will instantly fall in love. An incredibly moving song.

4. Called by Antiskeptic

I just love this song. It always makes me feel great, without a doubt the perfect non-alcoholic pick-me-up (so many dashes). Antiskeptic are an Australian punk band and are really really fun to listen to.

5. We Are The End by Alexisonfire

Possibly the best song off of their new CD Crisis. Its so so so so good. Really powerful and awesome. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to see them when they come to Australia in May. Best lyric: ' Look around, there's no affection, only infection'. Topical.
So yeah, that's about it except for my daily obsession with pop songs such as Justin Timberlakes 'My Love' and Good Charlottes 'Keep Your Hands Off My Girl'. Ooooh, and also the fact that Pete Wentz's voice is infectious like the plague and I like to sing Destiny's Child 'Say My Name' in the shower.

There Is No Such Thing As An Insignificant Enemy

Personally, I thought the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale, was the shit. Absolutely loved it. The new James was hot, convincing and didn't rely on solely on gadgets.

Some people disagree, but then again, some people also don't like icecream, which in book, is a CRIME! What normal person (that isn't lactose intolerant) doesn't like icecream?

But anyway, this post is meant to be about the best Bond girl ever, Vesper Lynd as played by Eva Green, she is smart, sassy and just plain awesome. Eva Green has pretty cool style also.

Okay, so sometime her hair is a little bit bizarre and huge (see middle picture), and her choices aren't exactly obvious, but she has a whole crazy avant garde European thing happening and it suits her. Sometimes I think it is better for stars to do their own thing and be a bit hit and miss rather than be so perfect and boring all the time. Individuality is a good thing.
