Alright...perhaps a slightly dramatic title for this post...however I'm off tomorrow on a 2 week trip to Shanghai and beyond. I am taking my lovely ibook, however it will probably be used for slightly more (ehem) constructive things than The Glossy!

Book Nut

Call me a geek - but on Christmas Day one of my favorite things to do (besides beginning the day with Bailey's, coffee and many a pressie) is curling up on the couch in front of the tree with a great book. My book wish list is always a mile long, but this is what made the short list for Christmas...

1. Kelly Wearstler - the Queen of Hollywood decor. She changed the face of decorating with the likes of her fabulous hotels:
Hard Rock Vegas Rockstar Suite, The Viceroy Palm Springs and The Avalon. With this book I would hope to channel some of that fabulousity into my own pad...

Turban Talk

I'm just wondering if the humble turban is poised to become the next chapeau du jour? Come Spring 07 will it enjoy it's 15 minutes of fame just as the Kublahkhan hat did this fall?

I enjoyed Prada's shiny satin take on the cure-for-the-common bad hair day...but I think it was the pic from Susie Bubble's blog that truly convinced me. Of course a little vintage Ossie Clark as worn by the model helps too...and perhaps a sense of humour?

I was reading RUSSH the other day and there was this big article on blondes and how anyone can be one. They also stated that the brunette team have Veronica Lodge (the Archies) and Jane Birkin whereas the blondes had Edie Sedgewick, Julie Christie, Bridgette Bardot, Stevie Nicks, Jean Harlow and Marilyn Monroe (just to name some, the list was fairly exhaustive).


As one can imagine, as a brunette, I found this fairly offensive. They made our 'team' look weak. So here is my answer to this article - a collection of photos from the 'dark team'.

Certainly not the most avant-garde, but so on the money.

And after getting over the fact that I thought they may have raided my waredrobe...I was sold on the first page which read, "This Fall, it's all about Azzedine Alaia." I wanted to leap off the couch and yell "YES!" Assuming the neighbours might not agree, I quietly proceeded onward flipping the thick pages to discover: an APC wool cape to die for, high-waisted jeans by Acne, Daryl-K denim, Edun plaid dresses, DVF and so many more.

I suppose it wasn't even the actual clothes themselves that got me...but the combo's! The sullen palette of nuetrals, the blunt blonde bangs, Cameron's fabulous fro, the swinging trapaze dresses over skinny jeans, and of course the beret's. Sigh.

Who are you this Fall?

I've Got My Best Shoes On & I'm Ready To Go...

Today I felt like two different people. One person is who I see as the real me, the one who loves culture and fashion and being different. The other person is who I feel I have to be to be a valuable part of society. At university, I'm studying accounting. Pretty much everyone who knows me (the first me) and who I have actually told instead of mumbling something about 'business, er finance', has questioned this. I question it myself at least three times a day. But I think this shirt will help me reconcile my two halves.

Take-Offs & Landings

Sometimes I revel in being an average, normal sort of person and other days I wish that someone was always around me taking photos. Not in a sleazy paparazzi way, more in a cool Cobrasnake, I'm rad, Cory Kennedy sort of way. Just because.

In other news, coloured tights are awesome. I got some electric blue ones the other day... They have a stiruppy bit and cost me 50c. That's right. I've always loooooooved tights, leggings to for that matter. I first started wearing them when I was 11 or 12. I read this old finishing school book that leggings/socks/tights would make thin legs look fatter. I've never looked back. It kind of hurt me that they became a trend because I knew the backlash would come. And come it has.

In a way I don't blame people for hating them.. I hate the way that people in Australia wear them and it kind of sounds like all around the world teeny-bopper mall rats are wearing 3/4 black tights with too short mini skirts. It's cheap and wrong. But with a little originality, they can be pretty cool...

When You Aim For Perfection You Discover It's A Moving Target..

Sometimes, when you are out with friends, drinking, having a laugh etc. the topic of conversation comes around to favourites. Favourite bands, favourite songs, favourite colours, favourite pizza, favourite brands... I often find myself struggling to answer these questions.

With the exception of my favourite person, my favourites change on a day to day, if not a minute to minute basis. So right now my favourite band is Cursive, my favourite song is Keep It On Wax, my favourite pizza is pepperoni and my favourite brand is Mike & Chris... But tomorrow who knows?

However, there is one store that I will always be in love with. Target. It's fairly fashion forward for a chain and you can always find something you love for under 5 dollars.

I came to the sobering conclusion the other day that probably 60% of my wardrobe is from Target. Almost all of my dresses are from there and I find it hard to walk out of Target without buying something. I was really excited to find out about the designers for Target collection featuring TL Wood, Tina Kalivas and Alice McCall. It's the first time that Australia has had anything like this. Everyone in the US and UK seems to be sick of designer collaborations but here it's still pretty new and exciting.

Alice McCall offerings include a pinafore, an apron dress and a dress and top in the most gorgeous bow print material.


All of these things, the designer collection, the price etc are all just bonuses for the feeling that I get when I walk into Target. There is a certain sense of hope because all of the clothes could be great, they could all look fantastic, it just depends what you do with them... and when someone asks if your outfit is from Lover and you are wearing 90% Target, it's a great feeling.

All That Glitters...

is GOLD baby. Second to Silver Belles I'll be asking Santa to put something glimmering and gold under the tree this year. Equal parts edgy and elegant...favorites include: Tibi dress from net-a-porter, Miu Miu shoes (to die for) also net-a-porter, Erva gold leather chain bag, gold skull pendant with black diamond by fettY and last but not least Giles and Brother chain bracelet. Drop major hints about Barney's for any chance at the last three.








As with Silver Belles a little certainly goes a long way...and if one or more of these lovelies does land under my glowing tree this year - I promise to wear only one at a time - outside of the house that is;)

Hell on Heels

The towering platforms of Fall 06 seemed to have quickly evolved into towering tools of torture for Spring 07. Models on the spring runways teetered, tottered and occasionally tumbled while attempting to strut their stuff.

And while I love a high shoe as much as the next girl...what concerns me is the somewhat staggering (ha ha) stature of the new breed and the new S&M slant on the accesories. Don't get me wrong...by spring I'm sure I'll be lining up with the rest of the fashionistas...but right now i'm still enjoying bathing in the shock of it all. Comments??

Chanel does Chav

This summer I just couldn't seem to stop playing Lily Allen's first single 'Smile' on my ipod. The happy but infectious raggae slant seemed to have the healing effects of Prozac - don't worry I didn't follow her lead and get revenge by paying thugs to beat up my boyfriend... and let's hope Karl didn't listen too closely either?

We are to assume however that he too couldn't get that song out of his head... as she is apparenlty slated to become the next unlikely face of Chanel. Following in the footsteps of Cat Power, Lily Allen was flown into Paris during fashion week, sat front row at Chanel (dressed head-to-toe), and then quietly visited the famous fashion HQ in Paris. Karl has apparently decided that her hi/lo mix will become signature Chanel style for early 07.





Lily on the other hand has allegedly been seen swapping her signature trainers for Chanel pumps - and gold hoops for interlocking C's at recent shows. Check out her second video below....
